Language courses vary in intensity, length and target group or purpose.
 

General English

General language courses are semi-intensive courses focusing on daily conversation practices. The general language courses are generally available for beginners (Elementary Level) up to high advanced (Advanced Level) providing 20~25 class hours/week. Most students wish to enter another language courses after just 1~2 months of general language courses, however, this type of language courses usually require you to complete up to Upper Intermediate Level before they can help you engage in daily conversation with confidence.

Academic English

Academic English courses are specialized for the students who prepare for entering university or other higher levels of academic studies. This type of language courses focus on a broad scope of grammar, writing or reading aspects of English rather than daily conversation. Intermediate Level or above is required to enter these courses and Elementary Level students are rarely accepted. Some TAFE or universities recognize the certificates of completion of advanced Academic English courses as alternatives to an IELTS test results. Many students enrol such courses for 20~40 weeks as offered by College affiliated language schools or private language courses providers.

Business English

These programs are aimed to develop English-language skills in a business context e.g. business meetings, business vocabularies or business writings, covering topis from the textbooks including telephone conversation guidelines, oral presentation skills and documentation techniques. For those who wish to seek employment after returning to their home countries, a certificate of completion of a 10-week program could be quite useful and helpful for their careers. 

Cambridge Exam
preparation

Cambridge Examination is one of the most recognized English examinations. After 10-12 weeks of preparation for Cambridge Examinations, all the students sit for the final exam and successful candidates will receive the certificate of completion from the University of Cambridge. In Europe, this is the fist certification for employers as well as entry assessment for tertiary education; FCE or CAE completion certificate will help you prove your competency in English.

IELTS preparation

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is one of the world’s proven English language tests. It is jointly managed by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations with two test modules: General and Academic. Many students enrol and study at IELTS preparation programs to obtain a high test score. IELTS is the required test for entry to a British, Australian or New Zealand university as well as for immigration applications in Australia; its demand

TESOL

A short-length program provided by private language institutions, designed for those who wish to become an ESL teacher without entering post-graduate level of TESOL courses. During its 10-week classes, students will learn how to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages and be asked to prepare and deliver a lecture to the real audience for practice. Upper-Intermediary Level or above would meet the entry requirements. You need contact the institution/ center /course provider to book and sit for an entrance exam before confirming the enrolment.

TECSOL

While TESOL is teaching any speakers including adults, TECSOL’s target audience ranges from kindergarteners to elementary school students (~Year 6). Accordingly, you will be taught, for example, how to teach English using English songs or supplementary teaching materials. Normally, TECSOL courses are 5-week programs with their entry requirements requiring Intermediary Level or above as well as a pass mark in their entrance exam.
